The blogosphere and the news world have been buzzing about the release of Truphone for the iPod touch.

To keep the excitement going, today we have launched a brand new feature.

2nd generation iPod touch users can now make cheap international calls* to any landline or mobile phone around the world, when in Wi-Fi.

This new feature means that not only can you keep in contact with other Truphone users, but anyone you like.

If you haven't downloaded the app yet, you can do so now for free at iTunes.

There will be more new features coming very soon to Truphone for the iPod touch, so stay tuned!

*Truphone for the iPod touch does not yet enable you to receive calls for landlines or mobile phones

hi this is well.... u no my name true phone is straight crap i am so confused when i got it i had the same amount as credit as on my itunes and now my itunes still has rhe same amount but the STUPID truphone credit sats i have two cent am i payong truephone through my itunes account if so truphone is awesome but if not if i get a bill saying i owe truphone so and so amount of money im not paying so you need to let people know if they are paying through there itunes or not because i have no idea where the credit cam from when i downloaded it off the app store for my ipod so email me the answer or i will tell everyone its crap!

Dalton - when you sign up with a Truphone account, we give you some starting call credit. So this is where the credit that you speak of came from.

To add more credit, you can do so via the Truphone application itself, or by visiting http://www.truphone.com/topup and logging in with your account details.

I am not sure what you mean about iTunes credit, but certainly this is not the way to add to and monitor your Truphone credit.

Please let me know if you need any more assistance.

unfortunately, still impossible to download for ipod touch 1G..
whereas some microphones do work with the ipod touch 1G (mics that use the dock connector), i use nimbuzz and fring and it works fine
most of the ipod touch owners at present are 1G owners and i can't understand why truphone is not interested by so many people

Phillipe - we only support the 2nd Gen because the 1st Gen does not support microphone hardware from the earphone socket.

hello !
yes, 1st Gen does not support microphone hardware from the earphone socket. but it supports microphone hardware from the dock connector. where is the difficulty ?

Hi Phillipe,

The iPod 2.0 software does not allow access to the dock connector through the iPhone SDK. This means that it is impossible to code this functionality into the Truphone application.

If the microphone hardware “fools” the operating system into thinking it has an in-built microphone, then you will be able to use it with Truphone.

Does this answer the question?

Just installed Truphone on my iPod touch. I found it after hearing Skype for ipod isnt available in Canada and went looking for options.
Bought the 30$ Apple mike/headphones , topped up with 20$ truphone minutes and called my friend's home and cell long distance in the UK - Ill have to test it more, but so far I'm amazed at how well this works - its a real eye opener.

hello,
yes but the iPod 2.2 software does allow this access, and everyone uses 2.2 now

some 1G users have installed truphone with unofficial methods that anyone can easily google, and it works fine. but, i prefer official methods
fring has enabled the DL
nimbuzz has enabled the DL
skype has enabled the DL
it's time for truphone now :)

It relies on Wi-Fi doesn't it? So technically it is flawed as a phone. How many phonecalls have you made in your life that have been near a wi-fi router? Probably somewhere close to zero.

It's amazing what technology brings. Now, you can't just imagine an iPod can call. Awesome!
