Instant Messaging launches on Truphone for the iPhone

Truphone for the iPhone has today been upgraded, with some exciting new features!

These new features are:

1. Instant Messaging (IM)*
You can have two-way IM conversations with MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk users.

2. Google Talk Calls
You can now make and receive calls using Google Talk.

3. Twitter Integration
If you have a Twitter account you can tweet to your heart’s content, and see your friend’s latest tweets.

The app will update automatically, so if you already have the app you won't need to do a thing. If you don't yet have Truphone for the iPhone, and want it, you can download it for free.

As announced at Macworld, we plan to introduce Skype calling and IM on Truphone for the iPhone very shortly. We are as keen as you to get this exciting new feature out and are also well aware that everyone is anxious to experience Skype on Truphone, but given we’re not completely happy with the user experience at the moment we’re reluctant to launch that piece of the suite at this stage. Our engineers are working flat out to resolve this issue and we expect to make Skype available for you as soon as we possibly can.

*You may incur third party data and call costs when not in Wi-Fi, so look out for those. Roaming charges may apply when not in your home country.

Great. wheres the skype? You send out a press release promising skype on the 12th and you release an update without it. Why would you send out a press release for something you dont have finished or working thats stupid. You get everyone hyped up for nothing.Dont have a press release if you are not going to follow through.

Have tried the IM feature on the new app - it would be useful if you could assign your own name to a contact rather than have the user's defualt MSN or Googletalk id, for instance I would like it to display "John Smith" instead of n925722@hotmail.com or whatever. With a lot of IM contacts it is difficult to know who is who.

Nimbuzz already does this quite nicely ....... (and it offers Skype too)

Any chance of AIM support on you IM. Once you have that and Skype working, I'll use you instead of fring.

So once again a date was announced for the release and the date comes and goes without a release.

Hi,

Will the skype calls work over just 3g connection?

@Gavin - AIM support is not planned just yet

@Chris - Skype calling will work both in and out of Wi-Fi, just as usual Truphone for the iPhone calling

Hi guys,

Are you getting any closer to releasing skype?

skype calling/IM sooner please...

@Chris - we are getting quite close now - stay tuned...

Any news on skype support yet?

When will you integrate this feature into your Nokia client? Also, when will we see a windows mobile client?

Hisham - we can't give a timeline yet for when we will do this for Nokia, or when we will be launching a Windows Mobile client. Please stay tuned though :)

wow... very nice post thanks!!!

Thanks, very useful..

I will install it in my Iphone!!

hey i think that is a good idea keep up the good work!!!!!!!

I guess saying that you are not satisfied with the user experience it means your biggest goal is to provide improvements with this new service ...

sorry but how much longer we still have to wait to see this new service being developed?

I'm waiting for taht information.....

My husband and my son is waiting impatiently for this service of the iphone
