Truphone announces Local Anywhere at MWC 2009

Truphone is in Barcelona for the 2009 Mobile World Congress (MWC) and today we held a press conference to announce an exciting new Truphone service: Truphone Local Anywhere™.
Truphone Local Anywhere is a single-SIM, multi-country mobile service that will make any mobile call within the set of supported countries into a local call.
The service will launch later this year.
You can download the presentation our CEO Geraldine Wilson made today at the MWC here (it is a large file, so is available via ftp. User Name = truphonepress and Password = serpresstru) - a video of the presentation will be available on this blog very soon.
You guys are really charging ahead - looks to be a real industry changer, can't wait!

I cannot wait for this. It's such a hassle keeping track of all my little SIM cards, making sure I insert the right ones into my phone (dual SIM phone) and restarting... Trying to keep track of all the expiration dates and balances is a hassle I would be happy do without, not to mention my multiple Skype and carrier forward numbers I now change every time I cross a border...

This is likley to be a real cost saving for Sales Teams who a) visit many European countries frequently and b) live on their mobile phones. Looking forward to seeing how this works with Blackberry and the pricing...

CAN ANY BODY TELL IF THIS CAN BE USED AS SKYPE TO MAKE FREE CALL WITH A PERSON WHO IS ONLINE AND INSTALLED IT ON COMPUTER< THAT MEANS DO IT WORK ON LAPTOP OR COMPUTer foR CALLING THE PERSON WHO CAN ACCESS IT AND BOTH CAN MAKE FRE call over net like SKYPE, IF THIS IS POSSIBLE IT WILL ADD A LOT VALUE, EARLY RESPONSE IS EXPECTED FROM THE TEAM COZ I DIDNOT GET ANY AREA TO QUESTION AND PUT THIS IN FRONT OF THEM ON THIS SITE

Hi Ajit - from the Truphone app you will be able to make calls to other Skype users, so yes, if they are on their computer and have Skype open, you will be able to call them from the Truphone app. If you are connected to Wi-Fi when you make the call, it is free.

Does Truphone assign a local number to each customer and likewise does sim4travel has assign number when abroad that families and friend can call?

i downloaded in my iPhone ,you give me a user code passwords , dificult to reset a new password of my choice so coplicaqted , it doesn"t explain what is standard tariff..make understandable

Mayse - Truphone Local Anywhere will allow users to add multiple "home" destinations, all of which allow home rates in that country and have a local number.
We will also allow customers to get other numbers where they don't have home rates in the country but allows residents in another country to call them at local rates.
SIM4travel uses UK (+44) numbers only.

New User - when you downloaded, you would have set up an account with a user name and password. User name should be your phone number in international form (for example, for a UK +44 number it would be 4407901....). Password can be retrieved by going to https://www.truphone.com/login/forgottenpassword.tru.
To log in to your account, go to https://www.truphone.com/myaccount

How can I call computer skype accounts from canada from TruPhone on my Iphone?

Duderanch - if you are connected to Wi-Fi, you can call Skype users with your iPhone by first adding their Skype name to your Skype contact list, then selecting them, and pressing the call button. You can get complete instructions at http://www.truphone.com/pdf/Truphone_User_Guide_IPHONE.pdf
By the way, calling Skype users is free! (but remember, you need to be connected to Wi-Fi first)
