Great new features added to the Truphone website

The Truphone website has had some big changes!

Here are just a few:

A brand new homepage, split into the different parts of the Truphone world, to make it easier to find the information you want. Check it out now.

A new section dedicated to our Truphone Local Anywhere product, which will be launching later in the year, and has already received a lot of interest. The page includes all the information you will need, plus a downloadable version of the presentation we did in February when we announced Truphone Local Anywhere, and the ability to register to be one of the first customers when we launch. A fun page, which we call the Stuff page, because it contains lots of cool Truphone stuff! You can test your Truphone knowledge with our Truphone quiz, send us feedback on whatever you want, invite your friends to join, check out our different pages on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and flickr, and see what we are saying on the Truphone blog. Check it out now.

Truphone for the Nokia now available at Ovi

We are excited to announce that Truphone for the Nokia is now available to download from the Nokia Ovi Store, for a large number of the Truphone-compatible Nokia handsets. Others to follow shortly after.

So now it is even easier to start experiencing Truphone for the Nokia.

UPDATE - To find the application in the Ovi Store, follow these steps:

STEP 1 - Change default Nokia device to 'Any Phone' by clicking the left arrow (the arrow in the green circle below). You should only need to click once.

 

STEP 2 - Type 'truphone' into the search box and press the search icon

 

STEP 3 - Truphone should now appear in the search results. Select the application, and then follow the instructions to download. 

Please note, not all Nokia handsets are supported on the Ovi Store. The Truphone website is still a great place for downloading the app for any of the Truphone-compatible Nokia handsets, but it is nice to have a choice!

Nokia 5800, N97 and more now Truphone-supported

We have read on blogs, on Twitter, on Facebook, and via Customer Support that there are lots of Nokia users with Nokia handsets not supported by Truphone, who are disappointed that they can't use Truphone.

Not wanting to disappoint people, we have done something about it.

From today, Truphone now works on 12 new Nokia handsets, including the 5800 and the N97!

Users of these new handsets will all be able to take advantage of our low cost international call rates without being connected to Wi-Fi, as the application uses Truphone Anywhere technology to connect calls.

Four of the newly-supported Nokia handsets also work when connected to Wi-Fi, meaning users can make free Truphone to Truphone calls, and save even more.

So if you and your friends have any of the Nokia handsets below, now is the perfect time to get Truphone, available here to download free.

Truphone OS 3.0 now available, with voicemail notification

With the recent, and much-anticipated launch yesterday of the iPhone OS 3.0 software, we are delighted to announce that a new, OS 3.0 compatible version of Truphone for the iPhone is now available.

'Truphone OS 3.0 for iPhone' uses the new push notification technology in iPhone OS 3.0 to provide Truphone users with a great new feature - Truphone Voicemail with Message Waiting Alerts.

Truphone Voicemail with Message Waiting Alerts allows you to receive a real-time alert whenever another Truphone user leaves a message on your Truphone voicemail, even if you don't have the Truphone application open on your iPhone.

Truphone Message Waiting Alerts gives you:

• On-screen Message Box - tells you who has called and left a message
• App Icon Notification - tells you how many messages you have waiting
• Real-time alerts - gives your callers confidence their message will reach you quickly

This new feature is completely free, as is receiving calls, and retrieving and listening to your voicemail message.

To personalise your Truphone Voicemail Welcome Message, or retrieve your waiting messages, dial 1571 from the Truphone keypad, or click on the Voicemail contact in TruFriends.

How do I get Truphone OS 3.0?

Truphone OS 3.0 is only compatible with iPhone OS 3.0, so you will need to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0 first (find out more here).

For new users, once you have done this, you can get Truphone OS 3.0 from here for free.

For existing Truphone for the iPhone users, please follow these instructions:

• STEP 1 - Delete your current version of the Truphone application (touch and hold the Truphone application icon until all icons shake, then select the 'x' that appears on the Truphone icon) and restart the iPhone
• STEP 2 - Go to the App Store and install 'Truphone OS 3.0 for iPhone' (not 'Truphone OS 2.0 for iPhone'). Select 'Existing customer' and tap 'Go'. You may be prompted for your account details. If you can't remember your password, you can reset it here

Please note, if users don't upgrade to the iPhone OS 3.0 software, then there don't have to do anything. Truphone will continue working as normal. Users who upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0 but don't install Truphone OS 3.0 for the iPhone may experience some quality issues though.

What about Truphone for the iPod touch?

The latest Truphone for the iPod touch application (v3.0), which launched on May 31, is already compatible with the OS 3.0 software, so users who have downloaded or upgraded the app since May 31 will not be affected. Download the iPod Touch OS 3.0 compatible version here.

Truphone now available in BlackBerry App World

For those of you with a BlackBerry smartphone, we are happy to announce that Truphone for the BlackBerry is now available to download directly from the BlackBerry App World.

Truphone for the BlackBerry is designed to be easy to install and use, and a fantastic way to save money on international calls (plus it is free to download). And with the launch into the BlackBerry App World, it is now even easier to get started.

Mobiles, VoIP continue to replace landlines

This article in the Telegraph in the UK talks about the continuing trend of people solely using their mobile phone for communication, rather than having a landline phone as well.

VoIP (what we do!) was also mentioned as it "allow(s) consumers to make international calls, easy-peasy and cheap as chips". Luckily for us, the author chose Truphone as their preferred VoIP calling option!

Truphone 3.0 launches on the iPod touch

Following hot on the heels of the launch of Truphone 3.0 for the iPhone, our iPod touch customers will be happy to find out that we have now launched Truphone 3.0 for the iPod touch (2nd Gen) as well.

The new version dramatically builds on the success of previous versions of the iPod application, enhancing the instant messaging and account management experience, making the application faster than ever before and delivering a new standard for call quality.
