Nokia 5800, N97 and more now Truphone-supported
We have read on blogs, on Twitter, on Facebook, and via Customer Support that there are lots of Nokia users with Nokia handsets not supported by Truphone, who are disappointed that they can't use Truphone.
Not wanting to disappoint people, we have done something about it.
From today, Truphone now works on 12 new Nokia handsets, including the 5800 and the N97!
Users of these new handsets will all be able to take advantage of our low cost international call rates without being connected to Wi-Fi, as the application uses Truphone Anywhere technology to connect calls.
Four of the newly-supported Nokia handsets also work when connected to Wi-Fi, meaning users can make free Truphone to Truphone calls, and save even more.
So if you and your friends have any of the Nokia handsets below, now is the perfect time to get Truphone, available here to download free.
Wi-Fi and non-Wi-Fi supported Nokia handsets
E63, N79, N85, 5630 (new)

I've been a loyal truphone user with my Nokia N80 and it was great! Now I have moved to the new N97... to find out its only "non-wifi supported"!
Please, when are you going to make truphone fully availble in the N97 ?!
Thanks!

Frankie - are you having problems using Truphone, or using your E66?
If you are having problems using your E66 to connect to a Wi-Fi network, you may have to consult your E66 user guide. If you are having problems using Truphone once you have connected to a Wi-Fi network, please send us a quick email at support@truphone.com so that we can help.
Franco - there is no date set yet for adding Wi-Fi capability to the N97 application. Please stay tuned :)

I am allways travelling for business around the world and therefore using truphone as much as i can. Just bought the Nokia N97 to find out that it is NON-WiFi!!! Please, when do you make it WiFi capable? I think the N97 will have millions of users, since all papers claim it as being better and cheaper than the new Iphone3GS.

Hi Guido,
Unfortunately, Nokia has not opened up VoIP capability onto the N97, meaning that we are not able to include a Wi-Fi feature in our Truphone app on the N97.
We agree - Wi-Fi calling is fantastic, and we would love to have it on the N97 as much as you :)
To add to this we are actively looking to include Truphone Anywhere functionality (non-Wi-Fi calling) on as many of the latest Nokia handsets that do not include VoIP.

Nokia 5800...
Very happy and heavy user of Truphone, on my trusty N82. Thinking about a change though - and the 5800 looks interesting. Can you confirm - your implementation of Truphone on the 5800 is non wifi?
(If so, very disappointing - as are a new non-wifi implementations). Did Nokia drop the SIP stack from these new models?

One more thing - it would be most helpful if on the Nokia support section FAQ for Truphone that you clearly listed the wifi / non-wifi phones that you support..

Hi Andy,
To confirm, Truphone on the 5800 is only for non Wi-fi calling (using Truphone Anywhere).
This is because Nokia has not opened up VoIP capability on the 5800 (or a lot of other Nokia handsets on the market), rather than because we don't want to have Wi-Fi calling on the 5800 (because we do too!)
There is a thread on the Nokia forum that shows the full list of VoIP supported Nokia handsets - see http://bit.ly/RHuEv if you are interested.
Thank you for the suggestion for the support FAQs also - this will be added in.

Really desperate for Truphone compatibility for the E75, including WiFi calling. Have written tech support but haven't gotten any answer. I know it's not a matter of if, but need to know when. Please, any ideas. Thanks.

Andy - we are looking to continue expanding the range of Nokia handsets that Truphone works on, so please stay tuned - no timings to give you yet on E75 right now though, unfortunately.

I believe from the documentation that the truphone implementation on the N85 supports Wi-fi calls - but wanted to confirm before I purchase this handset. Can this be confirmed - that the Truphone implementation on the N85 supports wi-fi similar to N95, N82 etc implementations?
Posted by: Kruse | July 23, 2009 at 07:03 PM
Kruse - you are correct. The N85 does support Truphone Wi-Fi calling. Please note though that Truphone on the N85 does not have SMS capability, if you were planning to send SMS messages through Truphone.

Hi Anand D,
If you go to http://www.truphone.com/applications/devices/nokia/download.html and look at the bootom of the page, you can register your interest in the E75. It's currently being tested and by registering your interest it makes sure we email you when it's available.

Hi guys,
It's been almost 5 months since you posted to say the E75 was in test, do you have anything by way of an update?
Cheers!

Currently looking at upgrading my Nokia. Using Truphone currently. Would love to see the N97 with Truphone wifi capability. When will this happen?

Hi Brad - we are working on it, so hopefully soon!

Please, please tell us when Nokia will allow VOIP/SIP on the N97! And when Truphone will be implementing WIFI capability on this phone. My current Nokia is dying and would like Truphone capability on a larger screen!
Posted by: Jase | April 09, 2010 at 05:43 AM
Hi Jase - no update just yet I'm afraid. We are certainly aware from the many comments and questions about the N97 that this is something that our customers want, and we are aiming to have something out soon.

i have had my nokia N97 for 6 months now and since i got ive had nothing BUT trouble, first the internet was disconnecting me while i was logged into websites like banking, when the phone went died and i recharged it, i had to pull the battery out and turn it back on. Then when i was ringing people they couldn’t hear me. Then my navigator was telling me that it had expired when ive only had it 6 months, and my battery was faulty.
Now after waiting 2 weeks to get my phone back from nokia (yes it took them 2 weeks to get a battery) i cant make or receive calls and my internet is done but only in selected areas. I rang Vodafone & nokia and they sugested i get a replacement phone but the store i got it through said i couldn’t
