Truphone 3.0 launches on the iPod touch
Following hot on the heels of the launch of Truphone 3.0 for the iPhone, our iPod touch customers will be happy to find out that we have now launched Truphone 3.0 for the iPod touch (2nd Gen) as well.
The new version dramatically builds on the success of previous versions of the iPod application, enhancing the instant messaging and account management experience, making the application faster than ever before and delivering a new standard for call quality.
Among the many improvements in Truphone 3.0 are increased ease of use, speed of function response, intuitiveness and simplicity – all designed to enhance the user experience.
Voice quality has also greatly improved, making this app better than it’s ever been before.
Using Truphone’s integrated messaging tool that unifies all IM communities in a single place, users can now simply manage all their IM communication from a single page within the application, eliminating the need to constantly jockey between different applications or even different pages within an application. IM services currently supported include Skype, MSN Messenger, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk.
“Following the successful launch of Truphone 3.0 for the iPhone we were keen to follow-up as quickly as possible for all our iPod touch customers. That’s what we’ve done to ensure that they can take advantage of all our new improvements: improved UI, account management and call quality. We believe Truphone 3.0 sets a new benchmark in terms of quality and performance”, said Geraldine Wilson, CEO Truphone. “With these improvements, we believe Truphone 3.0 is the best application to turn your iPod touch into a Wi-Fi phone and staying in touch with all of your IM communities.”
If you already have Truphone for the iPod touch, you can upgrade to Truphone 3.0 from within the App Store on your iPod.
New users can download Truphone for the iPod touch from here.
Don't forget, to make calls with Truphone for the iPod touch, you will need a headset with microphone, or a microphone adaptor. You can purchase the great quality (and great value!) Truphone Mic Adaptor here for just £9.99 plus postage ($14.99 plus postage for non-UK and non-EU residents). Every Adaptor pack comes with a special bonus too!
But does it work with Gizmo5.com SIP network?
If yes, I'll download it to my phone..

I have updated my iphone and followed the instructions and installed truphone 3.0. it does not work. The truphone program crashes continuously. I am a trusaver customer and I use the application daily. Can you give me some information on fixes please. I do not have an unlocked iphone and everything else on the phone seems to work fine after the upgrade.

Paul

Hi Kenton,
Naturally, this is not the type of experience we want you to have when using Truphone!
If you contact our Customer Support team (contact details are at http://www.truphone.com/about_us/contact.html) they will be able to investigate why Truphone is crashing for you.

Mine crashes too - truphone technical support says they are waiting for apple to accept their fix, but it's been weeks now. Don't pay a dime to Truphone till they get this resolved. There is a danger that they will lose credibility if they don't get a quick resolution and I'll leave it to you to figure out how much of any prepayment you have made would be usable by you. I wish you well, Truphone people. I'd love to use your service but you have a big hurdle to clear right now.

Hi Wayne - our new version of the iPod app is now available at the App Store. You will need to delete the current version of the app first, then turn your device off, and then download the new version of the app - available at http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=331303367&mt=8
If you are still having troubles after this, please contact our Support team at support@truphone.com, and they will be happy to help.

Waits about 3 seconds and crashes. Same as the other guy.
I've installed and uninstalled twice. Same thing. I thought it would be cool to turn my itouch into a phone but so far it blows. Not sure I want to spend anymore time messing with it unless there is a quick fix.
My iTouch is new and up to date.

TruPhone crashes on me even with the latest updates. Since Truphone was offering free calls today (Thanksgiving), I thought it would be a good time to test it out before buying any credits. But, looks like its not ready for prime time :(

Hi
will it work with the new ipod touch generation 3
Posted by: wayne harvey | December 01, 2009 at 10:54 PM
Wayne, it should work as Truphone is fully compatible with recent OS update. As far as we know, the 16GB and 32GB models also come with earphones with microphone so you can use Truphone without an external adaptor.

Hello, TruPhone I download truPhone recently, and it crashes every time I try to open it. I have a ipod touch 3g 3.1.2 firmware and yes it is currently jailbroken by BlackRa1n.

Hi jmartcougar and Chase - to fix this, please do the following:
1. Delete all Truphone apps
2. Turn the iPod off/on
3. Re-install Truphone (latest version is http://bit.ly/4G87tZ)
This should work, however if not, please comment back.

Even after deleting, shutting down my ipod touch device, and then reinstalling the application, i too have the app crashing. I guess i will miss again the opportunity of trying free calls on January 1st 2010 !!! My relatives in Europe were expecting a call from StarTrek kindda of device from Canada. There must a better fix for this, the app store shows dozen of complaints about the exact same issue!!!
Posted by: Bernard | December 31, 2009 at 01:55 PM
After many stepa of research, i just found out that there are 2 versions of the application on the app store, the right one is TRUEPHONE FOR IPOD and not TRUPHONE FOR IPOD TOUCH which dates back in may 2009. But before installing the right one, make sure the old one is deleted. The old version used to work but it does not anymore, it will even conflict with the newer version if you leave it in place. I have performed a complete shutdown of the Touch before re-installing the latest version. Berny, Canada

Hey, I just got truphon 4 my ipod touch 3rd Gen, and it always crashes. Also the one for the 2nd gen crashes, pls fix this bug!!!
Posted by: Matthijs | January 07, 2010 at 06:24 PM
Thanks to Berny I was able to install "Truphone for iphone" rather than "for iphone touch" and it did NOT crash on me
I still was not able to use the app though -
when I put in my customer details it said to create a new account for ipod touch - and then when I tried that it experienced "server difficulties" - agh!
too much headache! it worked well on my Nokia E51 - but has been a total pain everywhere else - it's back to Skype for me!

hey, i am just wondering i am hardly in any wifi zones and i make alot of calls from my mobile, i am wondering if i can make calls without wifi. if so how?
Posted by: william f | January 24, 2010 at 07:44 AM
Hi William,
You are not able to make calls using your iPod touch without a Wi-Fi connection.
With every other Truphone application you can though, because to make calls with Truphone without being connected to Wi-Fi you make a local call using your local phone network (please note, this option is only suitable if making international calls from your home country).
