Truphone 3.0 launches on the iPod touch
Following hot on the heels of the launch of Truphone 3.0 for the iPhone, our iPod touch customers will be happy to find out that we have now launched Truphone 3.0 for the iPod touch (2nd Gen) as well.
The new version dramatically builds on the success of previous versions of the iPod application, enhancing the instant messaging and account management experience, making the application faster than ever before and delivering a new standard for call quality.
Among the many improvements in Truphone 3.0 are increased ease of use, speed of function response, intuitiveness and simplicity – all designed to enhance the user experience.
Voice quality has also greatly improved, making this app better than it’s ever been before.
Using Truphone’s integrated messaging tool that unifies all IM communities in a single place, users can now simply manage all their IM communication from a single page within the application, eliminating the need to constantly jockey between different applications or even different pages within an application. IM services currently supported include Skype, MSN Messenger, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk.
“Following the successful launch of Truphone 3.0 for the iPhone we were keen to follow-up as quickly as possible for all our iPod touch customers. That’s what we’ve done to ensure that they can take advantage of all our new improvements: improved UI, account management and call quality. We believe Truphone 3.0 sets a new benchmark in terms of quality and performance”, said Geraldine Wilson, CEO Truphone. “With these improvements, we believe Truphone 3.0 is the best application to turn your iPod touch into a Wi-Fi phone and staying in touch with all of your IM communities.”
If you already have Truphone for the iPod touch, you can upgrade to Truphone 3.0 from within the App Store on your iPod.
New users can download Truphone for the iPod touch from here.
Don't forget, to make calls with Truphone for the iPod touch, you will need a headset with microphone, or a microphone adaptor. You can purchase the great quality (and great value!) Truphone Mic Adaptor here for just £9.99 plus postage ($14.99 plus postage for non-UK and non-EU residents). Every Adaptor pack comes with a special bonus too!
After many stepa of research, i just found out that there are 2 versions of the application on the app store, the right one is TRUEPHONE FOR IPOD and not TRUPHONE FOR IPOD TOUCH which dates back in may 2009. But before installing the right one, make sure the old one is deleted. The old version used to work but it does not anymore, it will even conflict with the newer version if you leave it in place. I have performed a complete shutdown of the Touch before re-installing the latest version. Berny, Canada

Hey, I just got truphon 4 my ipod touch 3rd Gen, and it always crashes. Also the one for the 2nd gen crashes, pls fix this bug!!!

Thanks to Berny I was able to install "Truphone for iphone" rather than "for iphone touch" and it did NOT crash on me
I still was not able to use the app though -
when I put in my customer details it said to create a new account for ipod touch - and then when I tried that it experienced "server difficulties" - agh!
too much headache! it worked well on my Nokia E51 - but has been a total pain everywhere else - it's back to Skype for me!

hey, i am just wondering i am hardly in any wifi zones and i make alot of calls from my mobile, i am wondering if i can make calls without wifi. if so how?

Hi William,
You are not able to make calls using your iPod touch without a Wi-Fi connection.
With every other Truphone application you can though, because to make calls with Truphone without being connected to Wi-Fi you make a local call using your local phone network (please note, this option is only suitable if making international calls from your home country).

Purchased Ipod Touch, installed 3 times app for Truphone at your website, when trying to open app it crashes within a couple of seconds. Need info on how to resolve, otherwise app is worthless for Touch.

@Larry and freelaylay - for our app to work you need to have:
- At least a second generation iPod touch (3rd generation is compatible too)
- The OS 3.0 software installed
- The latest version of the app (available at http://bit.ly/4G87tZ)
If you are still having problems with the app crashing, please comment back or speak to our friendly customer support team who will help you out (support@truphone.com)

Hi Big Bell,
The image in the blog post above is for our v3.0 of the application, and since then, we have upgraded the app, which is why the current version is different to this one.
We now have a brand new version of the iPod Touch app - v4.0 - perhaps give this one a try. You can upgrade, or download it again at http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/truphone-for-ipod/id331303367?mt=8
Kind Regards,
Heath
