Upgraded Truphone version for the Android now available

Dialler

We are very excited to announce that an all-new version of Truphone for the Android is available now at the Android Market.

The new application has some significant upgrades including:

  • More native features, including IM, making this application faster than ever before
  • Upgraded, more intuitive interfaces
  • An all-new dialer
  • An upgrade of the Twitter section
  • Better account management features, now level with our iPhone application
  • Working now on the HTC Hero

The new version is available now, so visit the Android Market today to try this faster, more responsive, and easier to use version of Truphone on your Android.

How to get the new version for free today

STEP 1: If you are a current Truphone on the Android user, delete your current version of the application (Go to 'Settings', then 'Applications', 'Manage Applications', select 'Truphone', then 'Uninstall')

STEP 2: Go to the Android Market and search for 'Truphone'

STEP 3: Select the Truphone application (there will be only one, as this version has replaced the previous version)

STEP 4: Download this version (for free!)

These upgrades are on top of the fantastic features already available on Truphone on the Android, including:

  • Low cost international calling to any landline or mobile phone
  • Calling and instant messaging to Skype and Google Talk friends
  • Instant messaging to MSN, AIM and Yahoo! friends
  • Use anywhere you have phone coverage, as it does not use Wi-Fi to connect calls

Should Wi-Fi calls be allowed during flights?

Interesting article published in USA Today, talking about Roger Flessing, a man who recently used Truphone to make a Wi-Fi call while on an American Airlines flight to Seattle. The article raises the issue of whether Wi-Fi calls should be allowed on flights, considering Federal regulators in the USA currently prohibit in-flight cellphone use.

A recent New York Times article approaches the subject from a slightly different angle, saying that although it seems many people are against the use of mobile phones on planes, when it occurs many do not notice, and thus very few complaints are recorded.

One pro to allowing in flight calling might be that people can update friends and family during the flight if it is delayed, but cons include the potential disruption to flight controls from phone usage. Opinion is clearly divided, and we would love to know what you think on the subject, so we've set up the poll below for you to have your say.

Great News! Truphone now compatible with Apple OS 3.1

The issues Truphone experienced with the new Apple OS 3.1 firmware have now been solved with the release of Truphone for the iPhone version 3.0.3, released today.

If you have not already updated either Truphone or your Apple firmware we recommend you do as soon as possible - you should not encounter any further issues with Truphone by doing so.

If you have already upgraded Apple's new OS 3.1 firmware then you should now upgrade Truphone so that you can get back to enjoying great value international calls, and staying in touch with our integrated IM service.

Apologies once again if you experienced any issues with Truphone over the last week.

Thanks and happy chatting,
The Truphone Team
