Truphone the first to offer Wi-Fi calling on Nexus One

Android_22110

We are pleased to announce that as of today an update to our Truphone for Android application (v3.0.2) means that we are the first to offer Wi-Fi calling for the new Nexus One device from Google.

There were many questions about compatibility with the Nexus One when we announced our new Android application a couple of weeks ago so we're really proud to have found a solution so quickly.

The new version of the application also introduces compatibility for the T-Mobile Pulse and is available now to download free in the Android Market.

Does this work with DROID ?....

No, It doesn't work on DROID
or
Milestone.

Give them another few months and they will say they are the first to do that too.

How do I get truphone to call skype users for free?

Hi Joel - is it the Android that you want to use to call Skype users for free, or Truphone on iPhone/iPod?

Hi, I just ordered a local anywhere sim, and I was wondering how this will work with this app... will I get 2 numbers, one voip and one cell number?
Will I be able to integrate this with Google Voice (use the GV voicemail for example)?
I hope you add Netherlands local soon, I shall be traveling there in April :)
Thanks for the good service, still waiting for my Nexus One AND Truphone sim, and together they will rock, I know it :)

Hi Sophia.

Thank you for your comments - we think the combination of the Nexus One and a Truphone Local Anywhere SIM Card is better good too!

It depends on which SIM Pack you bought.

You will receive as a default one cell number, if you purchased the Starter Pack (a UK number if you are a UK/EU resident, or a US number for everyone else). This is a normal mobile phone number, not a VoIP number, and can't be integrated with Google Voice at the moment (thanks for the suggestion though).

If you purchased a Holiday or Pro Pack, you will receive both a UK and a US number, on the same SIM.

We are working hard to get Netherlands local rates and local numbers too, so keeping checking back to the blog for updates.

I've wanted to try out Truphone on my Nexus One, as Fring has noticeable lag whenever I try using it to make calls for free.

Using my N1 attached to a WiFi hotspot, I just downloaded and tried to install Truphone, but it failed to install. I tried it several times but after saying it is "provisioning" it always goes to a failure screen with white text on a black background.

Might you know what is going on?

Hi John,

Thanks for the question - I am not entirely sure what is causing that to happen but I am sure it be resolved quickly by someone from our support team. Can you please send a quick email to support@truphone.com or call us on +44 20 7100 6860 (UK) or +1 347 694 5000 (US / rest of world) and we will do our best to help.

Hi

I'm on nexus one, not able to make call over wi-fi because my truphone dialler do not have the trufriends icon on the top left hand corner

Hi Azman,

Truphone on the Nexus One does not currently include the TruFriends feature, however we are looking to add this in very shortly.

Does Truphone on the Nexus One support Skype group chat - text obviously?

Thanks.

Hi Jason - at the moment, Truphone does not support a group chatting for Skype on the Nexus One.

My home country is US (California) and I'll be traveling in France/Spain for three weeks this summer. I'll be making some calls to the US and some within France/Spain. I don't otherwise make many international calls and don't travel internationally frequently.

I'm considering getting an N1 when offered by Sprint (supposedly the end of April). What is my best Truphone option for this situation?

Thanks!

@Dave - when you are connected to Wi-Fi, using our Truphone application (http://www.truphone.com/applications) is a great way to make very cheap calls, whether the calls be local or international.

If you are travelling though, getting access to Wi-Fi might be a bit trickier, so our Truphone Local Anywhere SIM card (http://localanywhere.truphone.com) would be the better option when in France / Spain. In these and 220 other countries you can make calls back to the US a lot more cheaply than if you were roaming with T-Mobile or AT&T for example, and it will work in any unlocked phone, like the N1.

I hope this helps.

That is a great function. Whenever there is wi-fi, we can use voice calling via VoIP protocol.

Thanks for sharing information about Hi- Fly mobile and awaiting your next such type of articles.

VoIP has been in the internet world for quite some time now and you can really tell the usefulness of this application.
