Experiencing Truphone for real!

There is nothing better as a salesperson than experiencing the product you are selling first hand, and in the last couple of weeks I have seen the benefits of Truphone Local Anywhere in my life outside work. I’m not sure it’s going to be the example we use on our future media packs, but nevertheless it shows how beneficial our product can be to our customers!

My girlfriend is a US citizen working over here in the UK for a few years, and a couple of weekends back she was taken to A&E with horrific pain in her head and stiffness in her neck. As you can imagine, any head related injuries are taken extremely seriously so she ended up spending 12 days in the care of the NHS. This would be a fairly uncomfortable experience for anyone, but when you’re several thousand miles from family and friends it is even more so. She has a mobile phone on a UK network, however international phone calls to and from the US can prove costly, even in an emergency!

Fortunately she had been trying out the Truphone Local Anywhere service, complete with US local rates and a Massachusetts Connecticut phone number, so her worried parents and close family and friends were able to call her whenever they needed to, for the same price as making a phone call to someone in their street. And whenever she had an update from the doctors, she was able to call home and put minds at rest, again, for the same price as calling me or one of her friends in the UK.

It’s been a horrible couple of weeks, but certainly the Truphone Local Anywhere product made things a little bit easier for her, and the good news is she’s now recovering well, and getting far more calls from the other side of the Atlantic as a result!

Hope you lady friend is doing better. Glad to hear how local anywhere helped! I am bit envious of the local Massachusetts number as the only state I could find was NY or NJ. Can't wait to see number portability kick in soon!

Hi Stephen, thanks for the well wishes. I've been told off by said lady friend as it is actually a Connecticut number she has! I've corrected the post as such.

Stephen, you may be thinking of the 'legacy' Truphone app. I just activated a TLA sim, and there were dozens of states available for assignment.

Standed in Germany due to the Volcanic Ash Cloud I wish I would have a TLA SIM with UK / German. Thanks god I am at Hotel de Rome in Berlin and the iBahn connection in the hotel lobby is open to truphone ports without registration on my Nokia E71. The truphone Nokia apps works without problems and with the $17 per months unlimited landline bundle I am happily talking throughout the world. The hotel rooms have no WiFi, however my Apple WiFi Express Router in my luggage makes a perfect in Room WiFi Network for all my devices to function. In particular on Truphone.

my truphone local anywhere (after activation) cannot locate, nor register with my carrier in washington DC (AT&T nor Tmobile). anybody else having this problem? I'm using an unlocked palm centro.

HELP!

I was in the Philippines a week ago and had terrible experience using Truphone Local Anywhere. I was able to make one phone call early in my trip; after that, I kept getting the recorded message "this call is not permitted" each time I tried to make a call.

Totally useless, as even dialing the customer service numbers also get routed to this damn recording.

What is the point of using this crappy service if when you most need it (overseas), it doesn't work!

Guess I am back to using country SIMs. What a waste of money.

Jay, sorry to hear about your experience, and thank you for letting us know. We are keen to ensure that such things do not happen, so I have arranged for one of our customer service team to get in touch so we can try and find out exactly what went wrong and ensure it doesn't happen again.

hey guys
i have a different question and i hope you can help me.
my country of residence is germany. but now i came to the US to go to college and on my flight i bought a truphone card so my friends can call me from germany to a local american phone number.
as i wanted to register, i noticed that if i put germany as my country of residence, i get an UK number which i really don't need.
but if i put the US as my country of residence, i have to put an address which has to be the same as the billing address for my credit card. but i dont have a credit card from america...
i'm confused all over people and hope there is someone to help me out!

thanks a bunch! :)
