Truphone for Nokia update
Below is a quick message to our Nokia app users from Karl Good, our Director of Applications:
======
The Truphone for Nokia mobile app is great for making free calls to other Truphone users connected to Wi-Fi, as well as reliable, great quality, low cost calls over the internet, even without being connected to Wi-Fi. It is also currently the only Truphone application that you can send text messages from.
However, I know that there are a couple of features in our other Truphone applications, such as instant messaging, that are not currently available on our Nokia applications, and that not all Nokia devices are currently fully supported (Wi-Fi plus out of Wi-Fi calls).
Our keen Nokia app users have certainly been vocal in letting us know how much they would appreciate these features/new devices being added!
Our main focus for now is to bring all of our applications up to the same level, with the same great features. This covers all of our applications, including Nokia.
At the same to we are developing brand new applications (such as our brand new iPad app, plus another top secret one that launches soon), so that we can give more and more people the opportunity to join the Truphone family. So there is a lot to be done!
We have a small team doing a lot of big things, and hope that you can understand that we can't do everything at once. Improving our Nokia app is definitely on our list though!
Really glad to notice that you are not ignoring users of Nokia Symbian platform;
By the way I now moved to Nokia's Maemo/meego offering called N900, I'll be curious to know if you will like to try to support that too ?
Best wishes !

So the message is Nokia client is at the bottom of the list, from the feedback ive seen on this matter from users, including myself is just that youre not willing to admit this!
N97 wifi support would also be nice... finally!!

I second the comment re N97 support. At the moment, although I have your sawn off application installed on the phone, I'm using SIPGATE for end-to-end VoIP calls at the moment, which is fine, but just not the same as having an application which works *with* the phone.

Its me again. On further consideration, I'd far prefer you to just support the N97 for voice calling over WiFi. I don't need the IM stuff in a truphone app. I already have Fring for MSN/Skype and the amazing Gravity for Twitter. So I'd just prefer a full blown phone app that lets me use my Truphone account over Wifi as well as Truphone Anywhwere - like the app on my N95 used to.
Its less work for your small team too. IM and the app being the same on all platforms may be a goal for you - but just being able to make VoIP over Wifi Truphone calls is the goal for me.
Regards
Neil

It is possible to get the Truphone service working on your N97 - and make full VOIP calls over WLAN and 3G.
You need the latest N97 firmware (v21.x.xxx) and this, from Nokia:

A kind soul documented it in the all about symbian forum
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93442
Call quality from UK to Spain over WLAN & Truphone is better that landline.
If only there was an easy way to get your Truphone password.
Truphone support, If you can provide a method for N97 users to get their passwords, I'll write the user guide for you.

If this is possible, can't it be done officially? All I want is the truphone wifi application to work "straight out of the box"!!!

@Pip - thanks for the suggestion and the offer. For now though, we are looking at ways to make it easiest to work with the regular changes Nokia makes to their VoIP system, rather than try to working on separate solutions for separate models. This way, as @Jase says, the app will work 'straight out of the box' across a wider range of Nokia models. Stay tuned

This process worked for me - I'm using it.
I'd love an out of the box solution too, but, Truphone only have a small (but dedicated!) team of developers.
If you want an official one click intstall, you'll have to wait.
If you want it "now", follow the guide. It works.

@Heath - thanks for the feedback, it's good to know that you guys are on it.
Keep up the good work.

The fact that truphone has wasted time rushing an app for the iPad and leaving Nokia users with a sub standard offering speaks volumes and for the first time in the history of this great organisation. . . you guys have clearly lost focus and decided to follow the hype! errrrrr number of ipad rolling out the door to date 7 number of Nokia N97 sold to date thousands and thousands!
You started your life with great support for nokia dna the nokia fan base supported you! Now you have just sold your soul and your user base down the river! You've obviously got so much venture capital that you no longer are driven by real users and business drivers!
did i really know that a vote for truphone would be a vote for apple! . . . ha ha clegg must have shares here somewhere!

I guess now that the app for the new iphone is out, the developers can dedicate a bit more time for the Nokia range? I don't know the specs, but it would nice to see some support for the new Nokias if they support SIP/VOIP.... eg the N8 etc etc. I gather wifi applications for current release Nokias are dead in the water.

OK. Now all the updates for Android and the iphone are out...
How about a little bit of attention to NOKIA !!! Are any of the new NOKIA phones capable or going to be supported with VOIP in wifi.... eg the new N8 model, the N900..... or any new NOKIA.
Thanks in advance!
