3G and background calling now available with Truphone v4.0
Unless you have been living in a cave over the past few months, you would have heard about iPhone 4, Apple's latest and greatest phone, which went on sale overnight.
To celebrate, we are all very excited to announce that we have just upgraded our iPhone and iPod touch applications to take advantage of some of the great new features with this launch.
So what’s new with these updates?======
3G Calling
You can now place and receive calls over 3G networks! This means that you have the option to make calls as part of your data package even when out of Wi-Fi range.
======
Background calling
This has been one of most requested new features from users of our iPhone app, so one we are very excited about. Thanks to Apple iOS 4’s multi-tasking feature, you can now be on a call and running another application at the same time. You also won't miss incoming calls when running another application and you can place a call while surfing the Internet or checking email.
======
Truphone Instant Messenger
We have now added a new feature called Truphone Instant Messenger. For the first time, you will be able to chat via IM with other Truphone users as well as contacts on several of the most popular social networking sites, including Facebook, Skype, AIM, GoogleTalk and MSN – all in one place, without having to open up multiple IM applications.
======
Both are now available to download for free from the App Store, or via iTunes.

If you already have either application, you can upgrade now via the App Store to get all of these new features (you will need to have upgraded to iOS 4 first).
Disappointed that Truphone now seems to be for iOS4 only! I have recently had to downgrade my iPhone 3G, due to performance issues with iOS4. This meant having to re-install Truphone from the App Store, but the version for the earlier firmware is gone.

There is a setting in iPod settings to start song at beginning or where it left off.I really enjoy it.

I just downloaded version 4.0 and I have an iphone 3Gs. My phone has the iOS4, so TruPhone should run in the background like it said it would, but as soon as I switched to another app, I was logged out from TruPhone and could not receive calls.
My boyfriend has the very same phone and we tried it at the same time...didn't work.
How to get it to ring even when your are not on the app?

I just downloaded truphone for my iphone 3gs, ios4, in hopes of using it with Skype. however none of the calls connect, not even to the echo test. has skype shut down all third party usage, or is this a local problem? Please advise...

I have been using Truphone for 6 months now, happily. But recently I had some problems with my 2G iPhone and had to restore it to it's factory settings which wiped out my apps. I then went to reload and install Truphone to only find that the only version NOW available will not load on my iPhone. I have saved credits and topped up recently to boot. WHERE CAN I GET THE EARLIER VERSION OF TRUPHONE?

Hi Bob,
Thank you for your query. Unfortunately, we cannot supply you with an older version of the application, as this would require submitting a non-iOS4 compatible version of the application to Apple's App Store, which is not allowed by Apple.
The hardware on the first-generation iPhone / iPod Touch does not support iOS 4, and unfortunately Truphone v4.0 requires you to have iOS 4 on your iPhone / iPod Touch, so that you can use the application and take advantage of all the features, like background calling.
To start using Truphone again, you will need to upgrade to a new iPhone / iPod Touch. We hope to see you using Truphone in the near future.

Hi there, now that you have an iPhone app that works with both Wifi AND 3G, do you have any plans to upgrade your Android app to also allow 3G VoIP?
Cheers,
Dave.

Hi Dave,
It is something we are looking at, for sure, but we don't have a date yet for when this will be available.

Every single mountain features a peak. Each valley has its minimal level. Life has its ups and downs, its peaks and its valleys.No one is up all of the time,nor are they down all the time. Difficulties do end. They may be all resolved in time.

You may remenber the four proverbs:
Wealth is nothing without health.
We know not what is good until we have lost it.
We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.
We shall never have friends if we expect to find them without fault
